| The Tausug people are a proud, bellicose, Muslim clan people. Around one million people live in the region of Mindanao. Most are domiciled on the islands around Jolo and Basilan where they work as farmers or fisherman. Many moved to large cities of Mindanao like Davao City. They become generally known when the Abu Sayyaf terrorists, which are mainly recruited out of the Tausug-tribe, kidnapped some tourists to the Philippine island Jolo. Among them the German family Wallert.
The Tausug are devotees of the orthodox Sunni Islam. Only a few (less than 0.01%) are Christians and there is no christian church. The Tausug are one of the biggest unreached tribes of the Philippines.
