Horse breeding is the main income for many Mongolians.
Mongolian women are responsible to cook and take care of the kids, but also to milk the mares every two hours. Fermented horses milk (Airag) is very popular within the Mongolian herdsmen. Milk products from horses, camels, goats or cattle are made into yogurt and cheeses. These products along with dried meats provide their main source of food.
Each summer after the mares have foaled, women milk the mares about every 2 hours.
