Rescue-a-Child:
The purpose of this program is to help rescue the malnourished and handicapped kids from dying. It is a daytime program where parents can bring their kids in the morning and pick then up before evening. They would be fed nutritionally four times a day in small portions, since they cannot take in as much as normal kids do. There are more than 50 malnourished and handicaped children in the area of Bucana (Philippines). Some are moderately malnourished, others are severely malnourished. Moderately malnourished children could usually be reversed to normal, while severely malnourished kids are very difficult to reverse except with God's intervention.

Our expecience:
Based on our survey and home visitation as we worked closely among them, we found out, that most severely malnourished kids and handicapped are well hidden by the parents. Many in the neighborhood do not even know of this. A sense of shame is very strong in the Filipino culture. A neighbor of a two year old severely malnourished child with encephalitis informed me to take a look at the child secretly, because she's the only one who knows that the child exists. The mother was too ashamed to allow me to visit the child. When I saw the baby my heart sunk because I saw death in her eyes. I tried to help, but before help could reach her the parents hid her away for fear that the neighbors would know. A few weeks later the child died unnoticed and was buried secretly during the night.

You can help to Rescue-a-Child. With your monthly gift you can help that we can care for malnourished and handicapped kids and fed them nutritionally in our Feeding Centre. Your sponsorship is required for 3 to 12 months until they could be reversed to normal and have a chance to live in their families and your parenthood ends. The costs are only 1 € a day (30 € per month).
